For 20 years I've specialized in working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families to help them live with more confidence, connection, and aliveness, both within themselves and within their most important relationships. I bring extensive experience in therapy, supervision, consulting, and research in the areas of child, teen, & family life, social and emotional development, and building solid and nurturing relationships. I work with clients in a talk therapy approach that is warm, interactive, and active, but that is also flexible in including support for new behaviors, creative expression, and practical help in developing new skills for living.
My specialties include: Developing healthy relationships, including peer friendship, couples, parent-child, and larger community; Coping with depression and anxiety; Healthy adjustment to divorce & blended families; Attachment & growth in adoption; Responding effectively to adolescent "acting out;" Resolving big identity questions (sexual orientation, culture, race & ethnicity, family of origin)

LGBTQQ Youth Support Group

This group, now forming, for LGBTQQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning) teens, ages 13-17, focuses on sharing stories, mutual support, accurate information, safety, and positive sense of self in all stages of exploring one's sexual orientation -- questioning, coming out, or living out and proud. The therapist-guided discussion covers issues related to general teen life & LGBTQQ life in particular, including self-understanding and respect; healthy decisions; relationships with friends, parents, family, and partners; and living life in a way that feels genuine, connected, courageous, and proud. Parent information and support is available as an adjunct.

"Del Mar Girl Power" Empowerment Groups

Through a close relationship with the Institute for Girls' Development, I can facilitate access to a variety of groups for girls, teens and young women. The groups offer an important adjunct to individual or family therapy through an environment of support, respect, and mutual learning. The Institute provides 3 types of groups: Empowerment, Process, & Social Skills groups. Empowerment groups promote self-esteem, confidence and positive body image through dialogue, art, and media literacy. Process groups focus on girls' specific emotional, psychological, and social challenges in a talk-focused format. Social Skills groups offer specific and focused social skill-building.

Hold Me Tight: Relationship Enhancement Group

This relationship enhancement group is for couples, individuals, and professionals who want to enhance & strengthen their intimate relationships. Hold Me Tight is based on Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), a short-term, structured approach to helping couples strengthen and deepen their emotional bond. EFT has strong research demonstrating its effectiveness. In this workshop, couples practice relationship-building conversations, watch demonstration videos to witness other couples learning to step out of negative cycles and create a stronger, more loving relationship. Weekend retreats several times per year. More info including dates:
