Psychologist , PhD

As a psychologist I evaluate and treat individuals who seek help for depression, anxiety, life dissatisfaction (e.g., from relationships and work stress) and relational trauma (e.g., to come to terms with a painful or traumatic personal history, like childhood abuse). I also have 18 years of experience treating people who struggle with substance use and who may have a co-occurring depression and/or anxiety. Of note, you do not have to be in crisis to be in therapy; I often work with individuals who are interested in a deeper self-understanding of their experience in their personal lives, who want more meaning in their lives, and who want to improve their communication and connection to others (sometimes to stop distressing interpersonal patterns).
If you are interested in knowing, I believe in a nonpathologizing, developmentally informed approach that integrates cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic perspectives (e.g., attachment-oriented psychotherapy and relational theory). This perspective utilizes cognitive therapy, behavioral strategies (e.g., learning theory and exposure-based approaches), and an integration of the following theories: Self Psychology, Attachment, Relational and Self-Trauma model. This sounds formal and heady, however, the experience is far from it.
How we engage this process will be consistent with your interests and goals in therapy. Regardless of strategies, the interpersonal process in therapy is extremely important in reaching therapy goals and affecting lasting change. The therapeutic environment that we co-create will be secure. I take an active and engaging approach. I listen, give feedback and welcome your input and feedback. This process allows us to build trust, to hone in on understanding how you experience the struggles and concerns you bring to therapy, and to activate the process of change. Call me and let's talk.
