Margaret M Postlewaite, PhD, CGP, SEP, FAGPA, Psychologist in White Plains
If you're looking to improve your relationships with others and/or understand more about yourself and "what makes you tick"... if you're struggling with feelings of anxiety, sadness, loss, or depression...if you want to make changes in your life and reclaim or discover more about who you are and what you enjoy, contact me for a consultation. We'll put our heads together to determine if you would benefit from individual or group therapy, with me or with someone else, and we'll identify the issues that get in the way of your living a more satisfying life.
Providing both individual and group psychotherapy, as well as Somatic Experiencing, has enabled me to assist adults to learn more about themselves, the impact they have on others and the effect others have on them. Group therapy can be a powerful adjunct to current or previous individual work - it truly becomes a journey of discovery.
Besides consulting, teaching & supervising, I have presented workshops on group therapy, issues of aging, Somatic Experiencing, the therapist's use of self and peer group supervision. In addition to the groups described below, I offer a women's daytime group (Thursday) and a monthly supervision group for senior group therapists. I am a Medicare provider.

Margaret M Postlewaite's Groups

Women in Transition

For women over 50, this supportive, psychologically-minded group provides an opportunity to explore issues related to relationships, career, parenting, aging, body image - anything connected with transitions in one's life. Members have had a minimum of one year individual psychotherapy experience, and have interest in learning more about themselves, their impact on others, and how to deal more effectively with the issues they're facing in their lives.

Women Helping Women

"Women helping women" provides an opportunity for members to become more effective in their relationships with others - partners, children, parents, coworkers, friends. Because many people encounter problems in establishing and maintaining close relationships, a therapy group creates a social microcosm where honest interpersonal explorations with others is encouraged. Members learn in the here and now how they impact others and how others impact them. They can explore more productive ways to relate and can try out new types of behavior - leading to more rewarding connections with significant people in their lives. A second, time-limited group, meets Tuesdays, 7:45pm.

Interpersonal relationships & Self Esteem

For those interested in learning more about how you impact others and how others impact you, this group provides a safe, exciting place to do this work. It addresses issues of self-esteem and self-image, looking at the discrepancies between how you see yourself and how others see you. Issues of interpersonal conflict, self-assertion, sexuality, mild depression, anxiety - all are relevant for exploration in group. Group works best when you can experience parts of yourself that you're not certain about, not familiar with - and other group members offer different "mirrors" for you to learn more about yourself.
