Finding a therapist is a difficult process. I'd like to provide some information about how I work as a therapist, which may help you to decide whether to make an appointment with me. During our first meeting, I ask the client what brought them to therapy and what they hope to accomplish through the process. I think it is helpful to "look back" to get a sense of how a struggle developed. After gaining this understanding, I work with the client to help them get "unstuck"-to move forward in life and to develop new strategies for coping.
I work with a range of individuals, couples, and families. I have addressed broad issues such as depression and anxiety as well as life-changing issues such as divorce, infertility, adoption, and job loss. When I work with children, I will work collaboratively with the school.
I have worked extensively with trauma survivors and I am trained as an EMDR therapist. I also have additional training and certification in the treatment of substance abuse.
