Robert K Marshall, PhD, Psychologist in Orland Park
Success in therapy is a result of the expertise of the therapist and the participation of the client. The therapist is responsible for helping the client to participate in a way that is comfortable and promotes growth and change. For more than 25 years, I have been training doctoral level clinical psychologists. To do so, I have had to remain current with advances in the field and have benefited from the input of new ideas and techniques. Techniques are not effective unless the therapist establishes a trusting relationship with his clients. This is my first goal.
I take responsibility for moving the therapy along as quickly as possible through direct feedback, emotional support, problem solving and soliciting clients' feelings and perceptions. Different clients have different goals in therapy. Some people are seeking immediate symptom relief. Others are interested in exploring underlying causes as well.
My view is that the depth of therapy is dictated by the client's needs. I have successfully treated a wide range of problems, from severe emotional disturbance to difficulty navigating life stressors to working on developing more satisfying relationships. My extensive experience includes working in both hospital and outpatient settings.
