Steven C Smith, LCSW, Clinical Social Work/Therapist in Austin
Is your child intense? Is your child highly emotional, willful, and gifted? Do you need some new ideas to connect with your child? Within each of us lies greatness: within your child, within you as a person, and as a parent. I can help you and your child access that greatness and nurture it. I work well with intense children who are struggling with behavioral and attention issues. I provide a safe and caring environment, often taking the therapy session outdoors for experiential activities.
I am a certified trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA). This simple and accessible parenting framework builds the inner strength of your child through three components: 1) Neutralize negative behavior 2) Energize positive behavior 3) Demonstrate clear and consistent boundaries.
A strong therapeutic relationship is key to positive change and is at the core of my practice. Using the NHA parenting framework as a launchpad, I often incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, and interpersonal therapy. I will create an individual treatment plan that addresses your child's counseling goals.
