Dr. Jeff Peterson PhD, PhD, LCPC, LPC, NCC, Counselor in Kansas City
Sometimes the challenges of life can overwhelm us or break down our natural ability to cope. We might feel unmotivated, stressed out, or wonder where we are going in life. These are the times that a compassionate and competent counselor can really make the difference. Whether you are struggling with anxiety or depression, dealing with anger management, trying to save a relationship, discovering your sexual or gender identity, or just need someone to help sort through some of life's challenges, I want you to know that there is someone who cares and who wants to really help.
Helping both individuals & couples find their way back to a happier, more fulfilling life, is what I consider to be one of the greatest honors as a professional counselor. I use techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relational psychology (RCT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), mindfulness, and positive psychology.
Together we explore your strengths, identify internal or external conflicts, and develop an awareness of how past challenges might affect how you experience the present.

Dr. Jeff Peterson PhD's Groups

Men's Adult Mental Health & Wellness Therapy Group

Many men struggle with common problems such as loss of a relationship, emotional numbness, stress management, conflict, working through anger, or struggling with addiction. This group is a safe environment where men are given the permission to express themselves openly and honestly. A candid discussion about anger, depression, anxiety, everyday pressure and stress helps group members recognize their commonalities and support one another in a confidential setting. As a result, group members are able to openly explore their fears, past trauma, and other concerns that may be interfering with their ability to live a fulfilling life.

This is group is specifically for teenagers based around the interests and experiences of their peers (ranging from 12-19 years of age). Individuals learn new coping skills, how to manage chronic problems such as depression, anxiety, mood swings, or relationship issues, and how to avoid problematic experiences with alcohol, tobacco, or drugs. Each individual will engage in a candid discussion about their home life, challenges at school, and difficulty in relating with parents, family members, or authority figures. This could include addressing issues regarding oppositional defiance, adjustment disorder (such as divorce or loss), and dealing with past trauma.
