Steven Hassan, MEd, LMHC, NCC, Counselor in Newton
As a former cult member I help people and their families who have been "unduly influenced." I am committed to helping people reclaim their personal power. Freedom of Mind: Helping Loved Ones Leave Controlling People, Cults and Beliefs (2013) and a 25th anniversary edition of Combating Cult Mind Control (2015). I help people from all over the world who have found that mental health professionals, unless they are specialized in treating cult members, are at best a waste of time and resources, and worse, do further harm. A large part of my practice is short term work with former members.
I have been licensed since 1991 and taken training programs in cognitive-behavioral techniques, strategic and structural family therapy, couples therapy, Internal Family Systems, Secure Attachment therapeutic approaches, hypnotherapy (I am member of asch.net and ISH) Short term, solution focused, positive psychology oriented.
I am based in Newton, Massachusetts, but do consultations via the telephone and skype (not therapy). I travel to see clients who can afford to bring me to them, but most people come to Boston for a week or two to work intensively with me. For fastest response, call the office directly.
