I like to think finding a good therapy fit is like finding the right AA meeting. You have to see at least 6 docs before you can say, This won't work for me. It is easy, exciting for the therapist, and her job to "get" you, but it helps if you're honest. Nothing's built in a day, and problems don't go away overnight. But there are many tools, and new ways to approach issues. One will work. The quickest "cures" make it all look different, which can happen right away, if you hit the jackpot.
My advantage is catching on fairly quickly, having been around awhile. Relationship (couple) and group therapies are specialties, too, requiring special training, and I've got all that. There will be work-- behavioral changes, probably; you can't help it, and Ah Ha! moments, seeing outside your head, that forest.
What's unique about me? Maybe being from a medical family, and having taught grad school, much to pass on. Being a chameleon works, having poor boundaries helps in this field. (That is a joke). The mother you never had, the sister, the girlfriend, daughter, mentor. It can be hard.
