Hello and Welcome! I have been in the field for over 30 years and gradually gained experience with a wide range of issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, addictions, PTSD, self-esteem issues, and many others. I begin from the premise that we are al already whole complete and enough, but that tends to get covered up with unsupportive conditioning. I do my best to provide you with tools and perspectives to assist you in seeing this for yourself. I have found that this approach, seeing directly for yourself, is the best way for people to integrate positive lasting change.

I am happy to apply my clinical skills to a variety of areas, including panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, mood problems and general problems in living. I have also run the Autism Lab where I am a Professor and Chair of Psychology - so more than willing to consult on Autism and related problems.

If you are like many of my clients, you might want to rekindle lost feelings or deepen the connection you already have with your partner or other loved one. Maybe you weren't given a blueprint for a healthy relationship- you know what you DON'T want, but don't exactly know how to manifest what you DO want. You might be a "helper", have a hard time saying "no", and find yourself feeling used up and burned out. You might be looking for healing, balance, and a better understanding of who you are after a big loss or other major life change. You might be queer, or questioning your sexuality, and want support in exploring your identity.

Working to improve relationships, sex, intimacy, sexuality and gender identity to enhance quality of life. I strive to create a safe and accepting space to explore and discover an authentic lifestyle within these aspects of life. Through a sex positive approach, the goal is to reduce shame and enhance authenticity. Beginning with the exploration with relationship to self, my clients are able to enhance their relationships with others. Challenging the messages, beliefs and values family and societal has created allows for clients to learn and create their own narrative for the life that aligns with them.

Do you feel a loss of identity, purpose, sense of self, or interest in life? Are you dissatisfied with your goals, your job, or your relationships? Do you struggle with sadness, anxiety, disturbing thoughts, hallucinations, or self destructive behavior? Have you experienced a trauma that has shattered your sense of the world? Just like physical pain indicates that something may be wrong with our bodies, psychological problems tell us that we are suffering on a deep, emotional level. Anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and other symptoms are signs that we are experiencing psychological pain for an underlying reason.

Are you feeling a sense of shame about who you are? Are you wanting to understand how your past experiences are impacting your current struggles? Are you having curiosities about your identity or patterns in life? People often experience suffering due to the pressures and stigma placed on them from relationships and society. These experiences can often make us feel a sense of shame that keeps us stuck and disconnected in our lives. I help my clients to heal from past hurts, honor their authentic self, and live wholehearted lives that are in alignment with their values. You deserve to reclaim your voice, power, and worth.

I am particularly trained in working with adults and children who suffer from persistent obsessions, compulsions, social anxiety, panic attacks, phobias and chronic worry and/or stress. Many individuals I see also have other issues that are also addressed as part of the therapy. Cognitive behavior therapy is an excellent treatment for these issues, which often empowers the individual to get better control using specific tools and an individualized plan tailored to their needs. Therapy tends to be relatively short term with maintenance or follow up sessions as needed to ensure individuals maintain their gains.

I am a believer that we do not always get to choose our experiences. Many of them are neither asked for nor deserved, and we get no choice but to deal with the fallout. All of us are simply doing the best we can with what we have, and I want to make that easier for you. My specialty is treating PTSD, I have a very wide range of experience working with individuals who have been incarcerated, victims of abuse, first responders, veterans, and others. I have experience treating other issues as well including depression, anxiety, grief, and other problematic disorders.

Life on the planet is stressful, and we don’t always feel like we have the energy to face it. The fact is that you do continue to face it, is an accomplishment. You have the skills you need to achieve your goals. Often, we aren’t conscious of what causes us stress nor are we aware of the memories that we hold physically. My strength in the field of mental health is in helping you to get,“in the know.” So often in life, we become experts at anything and everything except ourselves. We will identify your goals, and then we will develop the plan to achieve them.

Those outside looking in see strength. But when you're alone it feels like at any moment everything may fall apart. The intensity of these feelings keeps rising, your chest feels like it might explode, you're exhausted by having to keep it together, but every day you get up and keep going. The uncertainty is getting louder and you're struggling in your relationships. You're ready for answers and relief.

Have you felt like lately everything around you seems a little heavier? You are NOT alone in this feeling. If it hasn’t always felt very easy to ask for help, maybe now is the time you’re able to try something different. I see individual adults working through life transitions, trauma, anxiety and depression, building self-esteem, identity exploration, interpersonal relationships, and anything else that might be weighing them down.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
