Karuna John Cayton, MFT, MA, Marriage & Family Therapist in Capitola
I have been working as a counselor and coach since 1992. But probably what makes my approach most unique is my 12 years living in Nepal from 1975-1988 and my deep study of Buddhist psychology. I blend these deep ideas into the work I do in a secular manner. I have recently published The Misleading Mind: How We Create Our Own Problems and How Buddhist Psychology Can Help Us Solve Them. Check it out. the key to happiness is mental health. The key to mental health is a balanced and wise mind so one can, ultimately, become one's own therapist and coach.
With the exploding interest in Mindfulness and its effects on mental health, my rich background in Buddhist Psychology allows me to offer interventions and techniques that go far beyond common mindfulness practices. I also teach workshops in the integration of Buddhist and modern psychology and psychotherapy. The key is to become your own therapist/coach.
But, don't be scared by my Buddhist background. I never push any philosophical ideas on anyone. The ideas from my Buddhist background are universal and apply to anyone. I am just sharing with you what it is that informs my thinking.
