Alex Hoeplinger Patten, MA, MFT, Marriage & Family Therapist in Berkeley
Life can get extremely heavy and complicated all too easily. While challenging periods in our lives and relationships can overwhelm us, they also bring rich opportunities to cultivate resilience, a deeper connection, and lasting fulfillment. I will help you make significant and lasting changes in your life by supporting you in developing a stronger sense of Self. My person-centered approach, which focuses on you rather than your symptoms, will guide you in developing more autonomous control over your life, fears, and relationships. This will help you break out of patterns that have you feeling stuck and lost.
I practice holistic, relational, and in-depth psychotherapy and EMDR to help you change. I work with adolescents and adults through difficult life transitions, anxiety, trauma, relationship conflicts, etc. I will help you compassionately explore the meaning behind your struggles to create the space for healing and growth within.
My training was grounded in an existential-humanistic approach inspired by relational, psychodynamic, and experiential therapeutic philosophies. I see my role as one that tries to connect with you in a holistic way so that you may better see yourself and change by autonomously creating who you want to become.

Alex Hoeplinger Patten's Groups

Adult Children of Narcissistic Parents

This therapy group is for adults who grew up with one or more narcissistic parents. It is an opportunity to discover some of the different ways your narcissistic parent affected you in the formative years and how those effects may still be manifesting in the present. You will learn how to manage these lingering affects and what you can do to live the life you want rather than the life you feel like you should be living. Most importantly, however, it is a chance to grow and be supported by others who are going through similar challenges.

Political Burnout Support Group

As we all know this election season was exceptionally difficult. Whatever your feelings about the results and aftermath, this group is designed to provide a supportive space for those who are still feeling overwhelmed, confused, scared, or down right sick from all the negative rhetoric and energy the past few months have brought us. This is an opportunity to connect, process, and be supported in community with others as our country just completed its most recent peaceful transition of power.
