I am an experienced family therapist who has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families in a variety of settings. I see self-pay clients and Blue Cross Blue Shield. I am often the first person to see a young child when emotional and behavioral difficulties emerge in pre-school or Kindergarten. I can help figure out what's going on diagnostically and we can develop a treatment plan together. I have successfully helped children and adults with ADHD, PTSD, Anxiety, and Mood Disorders like Depression and Bipolar Disorder.

As a therapist, I ground my work in a deep curiosity and support people to unpack the old stories about ourselves which are often rooted in family systems and systemic oppression. I specialize in working with young adults around issues of emerging identity, anxiety, depression and other symptoms related to the challenges of living in these difficult and rapidly changing times. I ground my work relationally in creating a warm, safe and supportive environment where people feel invited to bring what is most alive to them to session. I incorporate elements of narrative therapy, self exploration, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and DBT.

Do you need a relationship TUNE-UP or need to address BIG CHALLENGES in your relationship/marriage? Do you wonder: How do we create more closeness? What can we do about fighting about the same things over and over again, without resolution? How can we listen better to each other? Is there hope for us? Most of us never received the information and support we need to have successful healthy relationships. No wonder so many of us end up finding relationships to be problematic, confusing, unfulfilling and painful! I help couples find their way out of confusion, distance or painful dynamics to find clarity, closeness and enduring love.

Welcome! I'm a remote therapist based in Western Mass and seeing clients in MA and NY. I love connecting deeply with my clients and understanding their life stories, past experiences, relationships, and identities. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and that you are the expert of your own story. I imagine you in the driver's seat and me in the passenger seat, with you every step of the way, holding the map and offering guidance and support, but understanding that the real growth comes from you.

At "Circle Forward" I welcome adults from diverse backgrounds, cultures, experiences, identities & belief systems. I am skilled at supporting people who have been overwhelmed and struggle with "trauma" - unresolved, survival responses (fight, flight, appease & shut down). These natural defensives are essential for dealing with threat. Protective impulses from the past can get stuck & intrude on relationships and on physical, emotional & spiritual rhythms of day-to-day life. I support you to feel safe & allow incomplete survival responses to move slowly & integrate fully. I work online and in Greenfield, MA.

Alice Miller writes, "In order to become whole we must try, in a long process, to discover our own personal truth, a truth that may cause pain before giving us a new sphere of freedom." The odyssey toward a personal sense of wholeness is perhaps a forever condition; and along this journey are inevitable peaks and valleys. Psychotherapy and the relationship established there can be a useful tool in this pilgrimage toward greater insight, compassion for self, and an increased sense of wellness. I believe that each person's path is unique, and I tailor my therapeutic methods to meet the specific needs and goals of my clients.

There is no such thing as "bad art" or "bad artists" in art therapy. You are also not too old or too (fill in the blank) to give it a try. Art therapy is highly adaptable and accesses both sides of your brain. The act of creating and altering images, in your own unique way can help to externalize, reorganize and regulate your emotional narrative in a way that words alone may not. I primarily specialize in working with teens and older adults who have emotional dysregulation, disability (cognitive and/or physical), are neurodiverse (ADHD/ASD/HSP), LGBTQIA2S+, PTSD, CPTSD. BUT you do not need a diagnosis to utilize art therapy.

I work with clients of all ages, and have extensive experience with adolescents and young adults. I am equipped to work with a wide range of presenting needs, including anxiety, depression, substance use, trauma, and grief. I want to support people in becoming their ideal selves, which involves balancing our capacity for acceptance and change. When adolescents or children present for therapy, I seek to assess the individual as well as the family system and explore what we can do on different levels. Ultimately we want to support parents, children, siblings, and all other members of our family alike.

Coming back from the pandemic has been both wonderful and immobilizing at times. There's things to do, but the motivation just isn't there. Relationships have changed at work & home. Let's face it, the summers' apocalyptic weather created an atmosphere of hopelessness & downright fear. Meg views your spirituality as a valid, timeless, and powerful resource to address your psychological and behavioral issues. Blending ancient wisdom, healing energy and a pragmatic down to earth treatment plan we can set up the conditions that will make you successful. We can start with the basics of self -care and build from there.

I believe that the journey toward becoming authentically oneself is among the most important work we do. My practice focuses on creating space in which transformation is possible and old patterns can shift into something that allows for growth and possibility. Putting language to complex internal experiences, forging connections, and examining clearly and without shame or judgment the places where stuckness happens are often crucial parts of this process. I work with clients to explore all aspects of identity, focusing on gender and identity development but also intersections of experiences of anxiety, depression, trauma, and dysregulation of mood.

I specialize in helping clients make the changes they need to have a satisfying and meaningful life. I believe that psychotherapy is about more than just talking things through--it is also about learning to deal with the problems life brings, whether by learning ways new ways of coping, practicing acceptance, or making sure that you are building the life you want. I enjoy working with adults and adolescents, either individually or with their families.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Greenfield?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
