I believe all people struggle with some issues during their lifetime and can benefit from professional assistance. I strive to create a warm, inviting and safe environment to explore those issues. I deal primarily with anxiety and depression, codependency and substance abuse issues. I have 25 years of experience working in the substance abuse field and have a depth of understanding the impact this disease has upon the family system. I provide extensive education regarding emotional development, neurochemical response in early therapy as a foundation to achieving goals in therapy.
I utilize a variety of techniques to assist in connecting current issues with emotional understanding. I am EMDR trained which assists in the processing of traumatic events or memories as well as using CBT to alter negative thoughts which relate to current situations.
I am well versed in spiritual traditions including Judeo-Christian understanding, Buddhism and I am recently trained in Mindfulness practices. Spiritual understanding can be of valuable in reducing anxiety and depression and sustaining progress.
