I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults with concerns that include anxiety (e.g., generalized anxiety, phobias, panic, OCD, social anxiety), managing chronic medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, IBS), adjusting to life transitions (e.g., changing jobs, retirement, graduating from school), stress management, and changing health behaviors, such as smoking or overeating. I enjoy working with a variety of clients, including those who are diverse in terms of ethnicity, sexual orientation, economic status, nationality, and cultural background.
Using a fairly structured approach, I help clients reach their goals by teaching concrete skills that address thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I promote active collaborative participation in therapy sessions. Because everyone is an individual, I deliver CBT in a flexible manner that best meets each client's background, personality style, and therapy goals.
I earned my B.A. from Emory University, my M.A. from Connecticut College, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Ohio University. I completed a yearlong internship at Duke University Medical Center (cognitive behavioral track). I remained at Duke a second year for a Fellowship in Medical Psychology before going into private practice.
