Many young people face issues that are too difficult to overcome alone. These challenges can feel like unhappiness, like something is wrong, or like the path you are on is no longer the right one. The difficulties can be at work, school, in your personal life or in your relationships. Sometimes the issues seem to be internal or in relate to general emotional well-being. Gifted children can face unique challenges that can easily go unrecognized and unaddressed. Gifted and high performing individuals often struggle alone and feel like they should know how to manage the feelings or situations that are that are causing misery.

Hello, I'm a counselor intern and provide reduced fee counseling sessions. It can be challenging to start the counseling process, but so much good can come from sharing your experience and not holding it in. I try my best to provide a space that is nonjudgemental, where you can expect that I will listen, do my best to understand your perspective and work together to find solutions. Through this process, individuals are often able to understand themselves better and naturally begin to make changes in their life.

I am currently taking new Clients. I believe that we are far more than what we present to others. Along the journey, we sometimes lose touch with our authentic self. This loss reveals itself in many ways: Dissatisfaction in relationships, Questions about career/vocation, Feelings of depression/anxiety, eating too much or too little, Lack of confidence, Uncertainty about life choices, Physical/emotional weariness, Spiritual confusion and Disillusionment. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University and additional intensive Masters Study in Human Relationships. My undergrad degree is in Education with emphasis in health: body, mind and spirit.

I've been in the field of counseling and psychology for over a decade and am accepting new clients, particularly in the first responder field. Do your once positive perspectives reflective negativity? Do you find yourself easily annoyed or chronically angry? Are you experiencing insomnia, trouble concentrating, hypervigilance, self-loathing and/or detachment? Are you struggling with self-destructive behaviors such as excessive drinking, substance abuse, or overuse of porn? Do suicidal thoughts or ideations cross your mind? Are your relationships problematic? You are not alone, and you deserve a much better quality of life.

The client-counselor relationship-which, in my opinion, is the most critical element of the entire process-is what determines whether therapy is effective. I strive hard to provide a welcoming, honest, and secure environment that, hopefully, fosters a sense of security and encourages open communication. Understanding the meaning and purpose in life can be complicated at times. My objectives and ambitions are to build relationships in which talking about the obstacles to realize your actual purpose in life becomes relatively normal. Working with people and helping them become their best selves is something that I appreciate.

I approach counseling as a mixture of all of my experiences that I have had, and with the knowledge and skills I have gained from my training and additional learning. I believe that the relationship we build in the counseling room is one that transcends the traditional media depiction of therapy- as your counselor my role is to help you explore your concerns, to help you find your own conclusions and make connections, and to help you utilize that new knowledge or those new skills to achieve whatever goals you set out to achieve.

As humans, we tend to project our understanding of ourselves onto the rest of our environment. If we don’t understand why we behave the way we do or if we don't feel very great about ourselves, that can impact how we see the rest of the world and how we go about living in it. My goal in therapy is to help you better understand yourself and work towards a new way of navigating the world around you. Here's to positive wellness and finding renewed satisfaction in life!

My goal is to create a safe, collaborative environment for you, where you can talk freely and explore your thoughts, feelings, perceptions, conflicts and relationships. The more we understand together, the less likely you are to feel you are in the grip of distressing patterns and struggles that feel intractable. Your psychotherapy experience can be a source of strength, comfort, confidence and change. It can help you understand yourself better on both a conscious and unconscious level. It is very meaningful to me to have a part in your journey of personal growth and change.

We all want to tell our story and be heard. It feels comforting to have a listening ear that will help you find clarity and freedom from overwhelming thoughts and feelings. Counseling is the chance to be vulnerable in a safe place. It is a place to be listened to and heard. It is a place where you can formulate understanding through deep reflection and insight as you share.

The first time meeting with a therapist can be the most challenging first step towards emotional recovery. It can provoke a certain amount of anxiety due to a number of factors such as wondering if the counselor will be a good fit and/or deciding if ready to personally commit to getting help. The most important aspect of therapy is being honest with yourself and to the therapist. This enables openness to personal challenges in order to gain insight and make behavioral changes that the individual is seeking within themselves.

I am not shy about giving feedback and responding to my clients. Counseling is a relationship and I strive to create an engaging and healing dialogue from the beginning. Whatever your issue is, if it's not getting better with what you have been doing so far, now is the time to seek assistance. Call me to discuss your concerns and we can decide if I am the right resource for you.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Boise?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
