I am a licensed psychologist who works primarily with adults. I have extensive psychotherapy experience in both university and community mental health settings. I specialize in working with members of historically excluded/marginalized groups; especially women of color. I view therapy as a collaborative, goal-oriented process in which I support clients in making meaningful changes in their lives. This work involves developing coping skills as well as deepening clients’ understanding of their relationship to themselves and others.

Is life becoming too difficult, or is stress wearing you down? You are not alone. Millions of adults in the United States are affected by anxiety and depression yearly. Have you been living with OCD going without treatment? OCD can be debilitating and difficult to manage, but you do not have to live a life burdened by these problems. As a clinical psychologist, I have specialized training in evidence-based approaches such as CBT and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) to treat anxiety, depression, stress, and exposure and response prevention, a first-line treatment for OCD.

Kyle approaches counseling with warmth and respectful curiosity. He enjoys connecting with people and is enthusiastic, but he balances this with a gentle demeanor and situation-responsive solemnity. With humanistic and relational-cultural foundations, Kyle incorporates evidence-informed strategies from several modalities based on each person's experiences. He appreciates the counseling relationship as a mechanism itself, emotion as a source of information and therapeutic process, and collaborative constructions of meaning and insight that mobilize strengths.

Leslie Weber is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has 20 years of experience in the mental health field. Leslie has always been a therapist, but she hasn’t always been a counselor. Her career began as an Occupational Therapist working in many settings with young and old clients: in schools, hospitals, geriatric care centers, and lastly in a forensic mental health facility. Leslie learned so much from all her clients and mental health was involved in every interaction. It was at the core of every successful outcome. Once Leslie realized this, she transitioned her career from a therapist to a counselor.

There are certain transition points in life: moments when you identify a shift in your inner dialogue, or you recognize a need for lasting change, or you decide it’s time to choose which of your life experiences should be footnotes and which should be part of your greater narrative. I believe these are moments of opportunity—and together, we can use the discomfort caused by life changes, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, or other stressors to navigate the next portion of your life journey in a brave, healthy direction. I look forward to learning more about you and your goals for change.

I enjoy working with individuals of all genders and ages, though I particularly enjoy working with older adolescents (14+) and young adults as they navigate the more transitional stages of life. I use a person-centered approach to therapy that allows my clients to be their own experts, and to use their own understanding of their experiences as a baseline for their healing. I also integrate relational therapy techniques, supporting clients in building their sense of self and autonomy, while also developing patience with and trust in their relationships with others.

My practice serves a wide variety of persons, emphasizing depression and anxiety. I work with children as young as six, but the majority of my practice now centers on work with adolescents and adults. My client and I try to develop a collaborative relationship that incorporates various elements, including expectations for outcome, open communication with my client, and the creation of an environment that fosters trust. I favor a pragmatic, experience-based approach that emphasizes coping skills, resilience, and each person's strengths. I also emphasize an understanding and respect for the role that emotions play in decision-making.

My treatments focuses on building a therapeutic alliance between counselor and individuals. I support individuals as they identify their goals for treatment and take steps towards reaching those goals. Along with using evidence-based practices, I feel the family unit plays a big role in Mental Health and it is importance to build healthy family relationships. Much of my work has been focused on working with youth and helping them process trauma through the use of Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBT).

Do you feel not good enough, no matter what you do? You may be fed up with nitpicking yourself, second guessing yourself, or constantly trying to please others. You might not remember when things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to prioritize your needs for once. You’re ready to feel safe in your own skin. And most of all, you’re ready to form a deeper connection with yourself and others. I can help you discover who you are underneath the mask you have created, because therapy should be a place where you understand and embrace your true self.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
