Lina M Hannigan, PhD, Psychologist in Alameda
I support individuals to manage stress, build resilience, strengthen interpersonal connections, and succeed in making healthy lifestyle changes. My patients come to me to improve their relationships, parenting skills, and life transitions. I have a collaborative style within a warm and respectful relationship. My treatment approaches include evidence-based practices (such as CBT and recent advances in positive psychology), enabling targeted symptom improvement as well as deeper self-understanding and personal growth. Biofeedback is a tool I use with some individuals to enhance mind-body awareness and augment relaxation training. My office is located in a beautiful, peaceful marina setting.
In addition to facilitating general wellness, I have two specialties. With extensive experience in health psychology, I am skilled in chronic pain/illness management. I treat accompanying anxiety and depression, and teach non-pharmaceutical techniques to reduce pain flares, improve sleep, bolster mood, and optimize the body's healing process.
My other passion is multicultural counseling with Asians and Asian Americans. I am fluent in Japanese and specialize in providing linguistically and culturally attuned services for people of Japanese origin. Acculturation, cross-cultural relationships, and conflicts arising from intergenerational differences in goals, dreams, and expectations are areas of expertise.
