Life offers both the opportunity and the challenge of navigating assorted relationships in our personal and professional lives. Many people struggle to thrive in these relationships because of barriers to communication, trust, or accumulated stressors - any of which can result from unresolved conflicts or traumas. I work with individuals who may be experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, or other impediments to satisfying relationships. I also work with couples and families who are seeking support in recovering feelings of intimacy or repairing painful fractures in the relationship.
My approach is largely psychodynamic, while incorporating tools from behavioral and systems theories. Each client is the authority on his/her own life. While I assist in the client's articulation of objectives, I regard the client as the final 'arbiter' of what constitutes his/her desired picture of social, emotional, and occupational functioning.
Often the conditions that lead one to seek help do not manifest overnight and the path to healing takes work. Each client brings with him/her a unique set of insights and capacities which, when mindfully recruited and in collaboration with the therapist's attuned interventions, can be a powerful catalyst for achieving mental health.
