I work well with a client who has experienced some type of sexual, psychological, or religious or spiritual trauma in their lives. In my sessions with this client, first I assess the level of trauma, help the client to build rapport with me, as well as trust. Secondly, I work to rebuild the client's life in terms of symptom management. Thirdly, the client and I form a partnership to improve relationship skills, thereby enabling the client to re-establish a sense of community. Finally, I value helping the client to rebalance his or her life in mind, body, and spirit.
In working with women and men who are struggling with religious trauma, spiritual abuse, and church hurt, I find that they need to come to a place where there is no judgment, and where they can find the unique opportunity to speak to their shame and loss of community and faith.
Beginning in the new year, I will be offering a 10-Shift Program entitled, "My Sanctuary Healing" for individuals seeking recovery from some sort of religious trauma, spiritual abuse, church hurt. The program involves a narrative-exposure therapy model, combined with psychodynamic and systemic approaches.
