Cecily A. Kanter, PsyD, MS, Psychologist in Palatine
"Your Comfort and Your Health" is always a priority with me. My goal as a psychologist is to provide meaningful, compassionate, and successful therapy. Successful clients have reported that I have provided them with a safe, comfortable, and nurturing environment for treatment, which allowed them to grow and develop new strengths. I utilize a number of strategies to engage individuals and families in treatment, including but not limited to cognitive behavioral (CBT), client centered and family therapies. I believe in and facilitate a strength-based approach to treatment, allowing the individual to develop and recognize their personal strengths.
I work with individuals and families diagnosed with: autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, learning disabilities, anxiety, mood disorders, and postpartum depression. I facilitate specialized groups (Girls Group & Play Group). I work with siblings and extended family to facilitate their understanding of the diagnosis through individual, family and/ or group work.
Lastly, due to my extensive work in therapeutic day schools, I collaboratively work with parents of children with Individual Education Plans (IEP) and other alternative needs in school, by empowering them to advocate and obtain the best and most appropriate services afforded to their child.

Girls Group

Girls group is an opportunity for pre-teens and teenage girls with developmental disabilities to come together and work on social skills. The ages of the girls can vary from 10 years to 15 years of age. But more importantly, its a time and place where they can be themselves, discover who they are, what they like and have the opportunity to be a more neuro-typical teenager. Girls will learn to build positive relationships with peers, staff, and community members through group therapy, mentoring, and experiential activities.
