Parenting is one of life's greatest adventures. Amid the numerous books, experts, and voices out there it can be difficult to determine what to do when faced with a challenge. Parents of spirited, high-energy, rigid, anxious, or disruptive children or of those who carry diagnoses may feel alone with their challenges. As your psychologist, I offer empathy, support and a collaborative approach for fostering goodness-of-fit parenting in your family. That is, I help you to discover the most effective ways for you to parent your unique child.

When human beings experience trauma or severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for their lives to unravel. My great passion is creating safe spaces for others to be authentically and unapologetically themselves. I strive to help clients find healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships so they can know themselves as peaceful, complete, whole, and safe. At the core of my approach is the belief that every individual has the ability and potential to access inner strengths, heal themselves, and reach desired goals.

Waitlist for new clients
My experience working with LGBTQ people and clients of various backgrounds in mental health settings has shown me that personal change occurs best through relationships based on trust, and a common purpose. Relationships where you are encouraged to say what’s on your mind, be challenged, take risks, and gain new insights. In our sessions, I will focus on honoring your autonomy as we work towards your goals for therapy. My intention is not to teach you a “correct way to live" but instead to learn what already works for you and help create a space to explore yourself further leading to new possibilities for your life.

Making the decision to begin psychotherapy can be difficult. "Am I really crazy?", "My parents want me to go" or "The last time I went it was useless," are typical obstacles that prevent someone from scheduling the first session. Therapy is making the first step towards improved self awareness. I point out to clients that therapy becomes a weekly safe place, away from their busy schedules, to focus solely on yourself. When this happens people are often surprised at what they discover.

I believe that we are all souls having a human experience. In that experience, we often discover parts of ourselves that are in need of deeper healing. I have special techniques I use with clients, such as EMDR & Tapping, that produce extremely FAST results in achieving change. I view intimate relationships as Sacred Contracts. I believe those contracts are full of opportunities for individuals to learn how to heal their personal triggers in order to emotionally & spiritually evolve. I firmly believe that therapy should be a transformational process, helping clients manifest the life & relationship their soul longs to experience!

With everything going on in your world, ADHD may feel like the last thing you want to be dealing with right now. You may have a job, a family, and you just want to complete the goals you set for yourself, but things aren’t working the way you want them to. Maybe you’ve tried treatment in the past and it didn’t work out or maybe this is the first time you’re considering it. However you got here, I’m glad you made it. It takes courage to recognize that you could use support getting to a place where you feel more balanced in your life– like you can finally act on your intentions.

When we see ourselves clearly, it's good for the people around us. Trying to live well and do right by others when we don't honestly know ourselves usually has unintended impacts. If you've been quick to help people, but reluctant to seek support for yourself, let's talk. I welcome people who are skeptical about therapy. It is very important to me to be affirming of all genders and expressions, and to be an active anti-racist ally.

We are the expert of our lives, but at times we may need some additional support or guidance. While we often give priority to taking care of our physical health, I believe our mental and emotional health needs just as much attention.

Dealing with emotional or relationship problems, or perhaps a traumatic life experience alone can be challenging and isolating. There comes a time in many of our lives when getting help from a professional may be imperative. When choosing a therapist, their wisdom, life experience, empathy and connection with you are crucial as they will teach you the skills you need to better manage life. I believe I possess these qualities and impart them in each professional relationship whether it is with an individual, couple or a family. Therapy occurs in a safe and confidential environment.

Finding our path may mean finding that we are unlike those around us. The family we grew up in, the friends we’ve surrounded ourselves with, may be unable to walk beside us on our journey through life. Hope in new, future experiences may be difficult to grasp. Finding abundance along the way may seem an impossible task. In my work with you, we will explore the path you have chosen, and the time you have spent traveling it. We will talk about what fed you, what surprised you, and what brought you pain. Our exploration will help us understand how your path has shaped you on your journey, and illuminate your way.

How can I find a therapist in Philadelphia?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
