Lisa K. Wheeler, MA, LPC, Intern, Pre-Licensed Professional in Austin
Do you often feel out of place or misunderstood because of your unusual capacity for depth? Have you been told to "toughen up?" Do you long to feel closer to others but are overwhelmed by the task? Having the capacity for depth can be difficult to navigate in our competitive culture. Uncovering your inherent strengths in making meaningful connections and finding your voice are critical aspects of your own life journey and stand to effect the overall consciousness of our world.
My area of special interest is supporting individuals whose experiences fall outside the cultural norm, i.e. hearing voices, seeing visions/entities, lucid dreaming, and those bearing the label, "psychosis". I believe that these creative mechanisms are meaningful and best approached with gentle curiosity for understanding and healing.
Most of what I bring into my work comes from my own experience through traumatic memory and spending several years on the client side of the equation. I believe that a non-hierarchical approach to therapy is critical to the healing factor within the therapeutic relationship.
