JJ Brake, MA, MFTI, Marriage & Family Therapist Intern in Pasadena
I'm here to help guide you during some of the darkest (scariest? toughest? overwhelming?) times. Let's work to get you unstuck. Let's find ways to create stability in your relationships. I specialize in working with couples to rebuild the bridges of communication. When working with individuals I can help you discover the tools you need to work through life's challenges. I believe there is a way to heal trauma, both past and present, through building a strong trusting therapeutic relationship.
My work is firmly planted in Neurobiology, Mindfulness, Psychoanalysis and a deep empathetic understanding of the human condition. I am certified in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) which is a lens that allows for empathy and connection to create change in negative communication patterns. NVC is an effective tool in building relationships.
I work with couples using NVC and Gottman method. I have taught parenting and birthing classes for many years. And you should know I have a special affinity for artists and their creative right brain usage. It is also my belief that humor is a magic elixir in therapeutic work.
