I provide empathy & compassion to create a safe space for people to heal. Together we create a therapeutic relationship that allows for creativity & reflection. The human psyche can be a rather dark place. I shine light on areas that need attention. Ultimately, this helps us learn what is needed for you to grow & thrive. I have worked in shelters for unhoused teenagers & families, correctional facilities, organizations for survivors of domestic violence & sexual assault & on the behavioral health unit at a hospital for children & teenagers. I focus on psycho-somatic practices to bring balance into the lives of my clients.

Trauma and pain from past and present experiences can stop your life in its tracks, leaving you stuck in the same patterns, of thinking, feeling and behaving that eventually lead to building a life that is less than what you've hoped for. With some guidance you can pause, learn tools, gain insights and power in where and how to change your life's direction. I honor the courage and vulnerability it takes to ask for help, to look at our wounds, to embrace the messy parts of our lives. I consider it a privilege to hold space for meaningful change and healing with my clients and I would love to support you in your process.

I believe that our greatest struggles can prove to be our most important teachers, and invitations to connect to our higher selves. Changing our long standing patterns and holding space of our deepest pain can feel daunting and scary to confront on our own. Yet, with support and guidance, you will find change is possible, and there is hope.

While using traditional talk therapy, I also incorporate teaching and interactive cognitive restructuring into sessions. I commonly utilize breathe work and other non traditional techniques into therapy. I allow the client to guide the session and their own work, but do not hold back observations about client's thought patterns and potential for growth. I treat all clients with unconditional positive regard and allow them to adapt within their own limits and social dynamics. Clients should always feel as though they have learned skills relevant to daily life.

In life we are faced with unpredictable obstacles that are discouraging. I believe that having a willingness to work towards skillfully addressing these obstacles can be rewarding. I believe that even with the challenges of life, we can be resilient, discover a greater sense of our inner self, and improve in ways that are unimaginable. Our life journeys are unique, but meaningful and purposeful. We will work together to strengthen family communication, maneuver life transitions/conflicts within yourself and/or with family members, significant others, adolescent/adult children, and extended family.

Hi! I’m happy that you have shown an interest in going to therapy and you’ve considered me as someone to begin treatment with. I believe that everyone should have a chance to live as normal of a life as possible and while we cannot always avoid all of life's stressors, we can better learn how to cope with them. I enjoy working with clients who range from adolescence to adulthood, who are looking to better cope with life's challenges.

Are you seeking change for yourself or in relationships? Making changes is challenging, and it's not something any of us can do alone. Together, we will create a space for you to bravely examine yourself, build on your strengths, heal, and work toward your hopes for the future. I work with individuals and couples (in a variety of relationship structures) from a culturally-informed, attachment-focused perspective. I have significant experience working with people who have experienced interpersonal/attachment trauma and ongoing stress, and the ways in which that impacts our relationship with self and others.

What if I told you that there is place where you can feel safe, understood, and in control of your life? Congrats, you came to the right place! My goal is to create a safe and empathetic environment that you feel accepted and comfortable in.

Therapy is a two-way effort entailing mutual respect, responsibility, and consideration between you and your counselor. It is my belief that everyone functions perfectly within the level of their knowledge and that all individuals have the capability to make changes in their life and achieve maximum potential if they acquire the proper skills to utilize their personal resources. I will facilitate an atmosphere of warmth and trust in which you may choose to examine and change patterns or behaviors that are currently not working for you.

Do you feel overwhelmed, that too many things are spiraling out of your control causing exhausting stress or unbearable burden? Maybe you feel flat and empty; disconnected from your sense of vitality, or that your inner world is confusing, causing you to feel lost. There are many reasons why we may lose our sense of peace, hope, joy, or security. Perhaps you are a parent at a loss of how to support your child or a young adult who is feeling unseen and disrespected. Fostering internal trust and compassion can be monumental in providing direction and a regained sense of self.

Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed or disconnected? Some days feel more impossible than others when you consider everything on your list. You constantly battle the voice in your head that says you're never good enough. You're exhausted, yet you still put on a good face and put everyone and everything before yourself. Maybe it's the relationship, work, motherhood, or family but you often feel unseen, hopeless, insecure and unsatisfied in life. You worry that if you attempt a change you’ll for sure lose the little bit of love connection and sanity you have left. You feel out of control and need a sense of agency. I see you.

Sometimes, life is like strolling down a one-of-a-kind path, packed with experiences and dreams that are all uniquely ours. It also is a road that can sometimes lead to burnout, self-doubt, and unique challenges. When it comes to therapy, it's clear that our journey to healing and self-discovery deserves a special touch. Our identities are complex and everyone deserves a therapist who not only understands mental health but also appreciates the specific needs that come with the uniqueness of our existence.

For the past twenty years my professional practice as a psychotherapist has co-evolved with my personal practice as a meditator and a student of Buddhist thought. As a result, the work I do with clients draws on wisdom from both Eastern and Western understandings of how suffering arises and how we can either ease it, or magnify it, with our choices of thought and behavior. My goal is to create a space of curiosity, compassion, and humor where we can identify the troublesome patterns in your life and develop wise responses to them.

You may feel numb, disconnected, and unable to cope effectively with personal and relational challenges. You have developed behaviors like lying, misusing substances, avoiding or procrastinating that make you feel even worse. You are successful in your professional life, but feel less confident and secure in your personal life. You are ready for something to change from deep within you. My passion is utilizing the powerful benefits of EMDR, and EMDR Intensives, with clients who are tired of putting band-aids on their problems and are ready to get at the root of their problems and experience true healing.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New Orleans?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
