I am a board certified clinical neuropsychologist. My specialty is clinical & forensic neuropsychological evaluation across the lifespan. Assessment involves an in-depth understanding of the effects of neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions on brain functioning. The goal is to see you, not the disorder, & to understand how the condition affects you, determine intervention & treatment needs, & enhance your quality of life. Please note, this is an assessment service. I am not providing therapy though I will make appropriate & targeted recommendations based on the findings so that targeted treatment occurs.

My therapeutic approach involves delving into the root causes of a person's struggles and issues rather than just trying to swiftly alleviate the symptoms. Through careful exploration, we gain insights into the origins of these challenges, which then serve as a roadmap for addressing them effectively. I practice Jungian and Psychoanalytic psychotherapy, where we explore your emotions, the dynamics of your close relationships and friendships, the dynamics between you and me, your family history, and also pay attention to your daydreams and dreams.

Vitality, growth, love, empathy, and meaning are essential to healthy functioning and a sense of well-being. We often create these gratifying experiences through an authentic and positive connection with ourselves and others. However, sometimes these connections are hindered due to difficult life experiences, such as loss of a loved one, career and life transitions, addiction, divorce, or relationship concerns. These struggles can lead to feeling down, isolated, anxious and confused about how to move forward. I understand and am here to help.

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I find that lasting change comes through self understanding. I help people in a safe, nonjudgemental environment to develop a greater sense of control over themselves and their lives. Current neuroscience shows us that overcoming emotional problems usually involves a process of understanding underlying issues. I am experienced in helping individuals, couples and families in times of crisis.

My philosophy is simple in regards to problem solving, effective communication, improving relationships, working towards reaching a personal maximum potential and in healing from trauma. It’s to identify thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs. I believe that as soon as a person is able to communicate these four insight oriented drives, life immediately begins to improve and problems get solved. While this may sound easy, for many people it takes time to gain insight, self-evaluate, uncover and accept why we are the way we are (ie: biology and life experiences), decide on and follow through on changes to make in their life.

When other people look at you, they think you have it all together, but inside you feel like an imposter barely keeping your head above water. Any positive thoughts are quickly replaced by insecurity and self-doubt. If you did everything right, why do you still feel so lost? You are more than your worst trait, your darkest thought, or your biggest failure. It doesn’t have to be this hard. Through therapy with us for your anxiety and depression, you can develop a deeper connection with and understanding of yourself, communicate with less stress, and experience more confidence in your personal and professional relationships.

People often ask me "How do you listen to people's problems all day?" I am inspired by the people I meet who often have difficult backgrounds and lives, yet are willing to work hard to grow and be happy, healthy, human beings. I am touched by their commitment and dedication to work on themselves instead of being angry, miserable people. What more important investment is there than investing time and energy in oneself?

While I believe that the soul can be a locus of pain, vulnerable to devastation – I also believe that in tending to the many truths of this pain with curiosity and therapeutic collaboration that the soul can also become a locus of transformation where healing takes place. I provide an empathetic and non-judgmental setting where issues of anxiety, depression, challenging relationships, traumatic history, existential loneliness, longing, and belonging can be intricately tended to and shifted.

When you reach out and begin therapy, you have begun an important journey of inner awareness and self-understanding. Each person's life's journey and experience is different. The process can be scary at first, frustrating even, but always rewarding. It takes courage to step out of your comfort zone to seek help or answers to personal questions, doubts or discomforts. if you are questioning your sexual orientation, gender identity or the process of coming out, it can be difficult. Your personal truth can be hindered by cultural, religious and familial bonds.

The way I see it, the goal of therapy is to bolster you so that you can maneuver whatever life brings your way. Depression, anxiety, and trauma all block our capacity to experience the wide range of emotions that give life it's vitality. As your therapist, I will be a secure and safe support as we explore patterns in your emotions and relationships, I will encourage you to experience life in a present-focused and embodied manner, and I will help to foster the growth of your natural strengths and resiliencies. Ultimately, I want to help my clients to reclaim their unique identity and to become better friends to themselves.

The first step you take, that moment when you pause to reflect on, “how am I doing? Why am I feeling this way?” is so very important. Life comes in the way of dreams and of loving relationships. And reflecting on where you are in this whole process often gets neglected. When things go well, one can feel that one’s choices are the right ones, but when conflicts arise, when anxiety mounts, and depression sets in, then you know something is amiss. When we first meet I will ask you questions about your concerns, your worries; together we will think about what’s getting neglected, prioritized, what you value, what you wish for yourself.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
