Gary Schapper, LMFT, MA, MDiv, Marriage & Family Therapist in Los Angeles
Are you feeling overwhelmed, blah, enraged, or lost and uninspired? Do key relationships in your life lack harmony? Perhaps you simply want to refine and improve certain aspects of your life. All of these are good reasons for seeking counseling. Taking them on is a sign of strength and courage not weakness. I help individual children and adults, couples, and families with issues involving feeling management, mood swings, conflict management, sexuality, faith and identity crises, personality difficulties, self-or-other-abuse, substance abuse, codependency and other addictions, and key life transitions such as marriage, divorce, vocational decisions, illness, and death.
I see all feelings, thoughts, and behaviors ideally tempering and informing one another towards centeredness, creative tension, and inspired focus in life. I use a combination of practicing coping techniques and exploring memories in ways that help you discover more love, happiness, and purpose with yourself and with others.
Where appropriate and desired I weave play, sport, and spirituality into my work with clients. Trained in sports psychology I support the athlete or athlete family "on and off the field." Trained theologically, I also offer help with spirituality and inter-faith dialogue issues.

Gary Schapper's Groups

An Adult Play Therapy Group

Would you like more play in your life while improving your inspired focus for life? Well, if so, this might be a group for you. Playing group-adapted games (from silly to sport-like) you watch for metaphors for your life as you learn skills used by athletes to improve their game. As a team you learn to better lead and follow, including in the creation of some outdoor events and adventures. Sometimes family might be invited in. A group is forming yet (time and location TBD); let me know if you'd like to be considered for it.
