Liz Buhai-Jacobus, PsyD, Psychologist in Oak Park
Do you struggle in your relationships with those you care about? Do you find yourself getting really frustrated, even doubting yourself when talking to your family or friends? Struggling to cope can lead to feeling anxious, depressed, or even having panic attacks. When we feel overwhelmed, and frequently second guess what we do and say, it makes all of life's challenges so much harder. I'd like to help.
If you have grown up in a dysfunctional family, with an alcoholic, mentally ill, or abusive parent, it can leave you struggling to feel in control in relationships. Looking at how past situations and relationships impact how we view ourselves, and events in the present can be helpful.
Through interactive and insight-oriented therapy, I help clients understand their reactions, and seek alternatives to their negative thinking, and mistaken beliefs they have about themselves and others. I provide coping strategies for clients to address their anxiety, assert themselves, and increase self-confidence.
