The way psychotherapy is practiced has a lot to do with the mind set and life experience of the psychologist. I have been in private practice since 1980, and beyond the traditional training for psychologists, I also trained extensively in an approach known as Psychology of Mind, or Health Realization. This is a cognitive approach that is very down-to-earth but rooted in principles akin to those behind meditation, yoga and similar traditions that were developed to enhance optimal human functioning.
In my personal life, I began to meditate and do yoga in 1971. Those practices and the life orientation it develops are integrated into how I live and what I bring to my work.One way it carries over is that I help people to feel more in control of how they experience life, so they can live more fully in the present moment.
I work mostly with adults individually, and I also see couples. I specialize in relationship and marriage issues, mood disorders and stress and anxiety problems. In addition to "talk therapy," I often teach breathing or meditation techniques to clients, which is helpful to everyone. I also offer Meditation Groups. Contact me for information and schedule.
