I work mostly with individuals seeking to heal from abusive relationships. Abusive relationships in childhood, adolescence, and/or adulthood can largely impact one's ability to connect with themselves and others. The world feels unsafe and many of the parts of you that have learned how to protect you may also be keeping you out of touch with everything around you. This work typically involves a combination of interventions to reconnect to your physical, psychological, and emotional self after having to abandon these parts in order to survive these relationships.

I'm only accepting telehealth clients. I work with people struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction and other life challenges. The time you take, as well as, the effort you invest in and outside of therapy may help you realize central themes in your life and what you can to do to create a positive change. As you share with me your personal story/situation, I will help you gain skills and "tools" intended to move you closer towards reaching your personal value based goals.

Being my authentic self is important to me and I want you to be yourself with me. We often don’t get the chance to be completely open and honest in our society, so I hope we can create that safe place in our sessions. I believe that you are your own expert, and sometimes even experts need to explore their own ideas to come up with solutions to all sorts of problems or issues. I use aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy depending on my client’s needs. I often incorporate creativity, laughter, and games in session because I am a “big kid” and because it’s fun!

I want to help you achieve whatever solutions and life changes you are looking for while enjoying the process as much as possible and experiencing yourself in new ways. Simply put, I don’t believe therapy has to always be a painful thing, but a collaborative strength base process for growth. Life is too short to surrender to bad relationships, hold grudges, let trauma control us, or be anxious/angry all the time.

I understand the overwhelming weight that anxiety can place on your shoulders, especially when it comes to navigating relationships. If you find yourself in a constant battle with your own mind, craving validation and security but feeling lost on how to grasp it, know that you're not alone. Maybe there’s a part of you that wants to explore these challenging emotions but you’re unsure or scared of what that might look like. That feeling of disconnection from ourselves can feel daunting but know that it is possible to reconnect with yourself and form a new path. Sometimes we need help with this and that’s okay!

Are you struggling with setting boundaries, communicating needs, and naming emotions, causing daily anxiety? Feel frustrated and overwhelmed with no visible change? Through inner child work, you can learn about unconscious patterns that have been passed down to you. Together, we can explore your story to identify outdated patterns, enabling the creation of a more fulfilling life tailored to your present self, rather than old, protective instincts. Ignoring your needs may deepen wounds, hindering enjoyment of life and current relationships. Break free from these patterns for a more enriching and authentic existence.

When seeking care, nothing is scarier to transgender and non binary folx than winding up with a provider who is poorly informed about the issues that face our community. From understanding discrimination and harassment and the various intersectionalities of our personhood to the process of transitioning and navigating this process, having a mental health provider who is affirming and competent makes a huge difference, whether your current mental health concerns are or aren't related to your gender.

You want to appear as if you have it all figured out and that you are "ok", but deep down you are struggling with self-worth, coping, anxiety, conflict, and a clear direction in life. Everyday leaves you feeling overwhelmed, drained, and unsure about your roles and place in this world. Being a teenager, adulting, parenting, and caregiving is so much harder than you imagined. You feel so alone in your struggle, and you’re ready to make a change. You’re ready to start honoring yourself and your needs, even when it is hard. Most of all, you’re ready to do things differently, and you know the power to do that starts with you.

I believe that therapy is an important tool for creating an intentional space to explore how we exist in the world and to practice communicating our emotions and needs. As a relational and trauma informed therapist, I believe that the relationship between a client and therapist is the foundation of healing and growing. In this way, comfort and trust are key to providing a space to freely set intention and dig into meaningful work to pave a path towards growth. A core belief of my practice is that your feelings and self awareness carry a great deal of wisdom about what you need in order to heal and grow.

Welcome to the wonderful world of somatic therapy! I know it can feel intimidating to embark on a journey of self-improvement and self-acceptance. Luckily, SE (Somatic Experiencing) is a gentle approach to trauma-informed counseling that helps you ease into the process. It's great for beginners to therapy, as well as longtime therapy-goers who feel stuck in traditional talk therapy and want to access a new part of the work. I believe that therapy is at its best when it is an open and inviting process, so I will never pressure you to change or push you in a certain direction.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
