Madelyn Petrow-Cohen, MA, LCSW, SEP, Clinical Social Work/Therapist in Maplewood
I have been a psychotherapist for 20 years and have a multitude of experience. There are a wide variety of issues that I treat including anxiety and depression, relationship problems, life transitions, chronic illness and family of origin issues. My specialties include couples counseling, all forms of addiction and self harm disorders and PTSD/Trauma (SE and EMDR trained) and working with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender clients . I work well with all age clients and especially enjoy older clients. I would say that besides my sizable clinical knowledge and skill at applying my knowledge I offer my clients dedicated and empathic care.
I provide traditional marriage and pre-marriage counseling. I work with coming out, bisexuality and HIV. I treat alcohol and drug addiction, co-dependency issues from a harm reduction and disease concept model. I treat eating disorders. When appropriate I utilize EMDR and Somatic Experiencing with single incident or developmental traumas and PTSD.
My practice is unique in that I incorporate pet therapy into my work with clients. Upon request or with client consent, I include my therapy dog in sessions when I feel she will be theraputically helpful. Pet therapy has proven to be very powerful and beneficial for many of my clients.
