Life can be unpredictable and challenging- at times, we may struggle to find the tools to cope with its stressors, heal from its wounds, or live wholeheartedly. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, loss, transition, feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness, self-doubt; you are not meant to do it all alone. I believe that therapy should be supportive, non-judgmental, and safe, while also inviting honest feedback necessary for change. In our relationship, I am an advocate for your health and well-being. We work together to help you get closer to the purposeful, connected, and fulfilled life you deserve.

It hurts to feel disconnected from your partner, parent, or child. And sometimes the harder you both try to close that distance, the farther apart and more lonely you both end up feeling. Yet you keep using the same ineffective relationship strategies, because you don't know what else to do! Or maybe you just give up. If yours is like most relationships, you're already spending enough time and effort trying to make it work -- you're just spending it in the wrong way. I can help you redirect your efforts using an approach called Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

I specialize in mind-body healing for adult individuals and couples, particularly with survivors of childhood trauma. Do you have overwhelming feelings or numbness? Do you have anxiety, depression, or PTSD? Are you struggling with coping mechanisms that cause you pain? Is your relationship in crisis? Many do not know childhood hurts can live on for a lifetime somatically in the nervous system and emotions. The natural ability to find peace inside and connection with others simply becomes less flexible, but all of this can shift. We work with what happens in the present to see real change - as an individual or couple.

Living with frequently intense emotions is tough and tiresome. Everyone’s story matters and every life is worth living so I strive to inspire and empower my clients, helping them gain a healthier relationship with themselves, their goals, and others. I enjoy working with adults as well as teens, and my experience revolves around helping those who struggle with overwhelmingly strong emotions and ineffective behaviors that get in the way of their goals or relationships. I teach my clients how to pause in life so that they can respond with decision and self respect rather than reacting from emotion. If you feel stuck, let me help.

No one should go through their grief and loss journey alone. My role is to serve and guide others as they move from surviving their loss to adapting, and then to healing and moving forward in the new terrible realities we would never choose but are forced to face. Whether the loss is recent or happened months or years ago, we'll have space to hold all that comes with it and supportive guidance towards healing rather than functioning. I've worked with those who've lost partners, siblings, friends, children, as well as survivors of suicide, and those who've received life-changing news or are navigating grief in life transitions.

I have been a therapist for 20 years. I have also been a client. As a client I enjoy the process of working on my relationship to self and others, processing the wounds and effects of childhood, and working to improve my ability to live in the moment with contentment, presence, and acceptance. For me therapy helps me to be intimate, to listen, and to practice loving kindness. It is an important part of my spiritual growth and over all self-improvement. This is what I enjoy with my clients… being part of their life’s journey of contentment and meaning, away from fear and always working toward love.

I am currently accepting new teen, couple, and adult clients both in-person and online. I have a special interest in working with teens, as these years can often be a turning point in life. It is a time to grow, build resilience, and discover one's identity. I also enjoy working with families, adults and couples. As with many others, I've struggled to find my way in life, which led me to my own personal therapy. I've found that being seen and heard in the therapeutic space has helped me foster greater compassion for myself and move beyond recurring problematic cycles.

I love working with adolescents and adults. Together we will navigate the challenging experiences, transitions, relationships, and behaviors that can make life difficult to manage. I enjoy listening to each person's story. While everyone's story is unique, I have found our struggles and our hopes are often very similar, and that we are not alone in our journey.

As a psychologist, I empower individuals to grow and reach fulfillment in their lives. Whether you are a high school student coping with changes, a young adult trying to find your way through adulthood, an individual who has experienced trauma that won't seem to go away, or a parent hoping to help your family, I firmly believe that everyone needs help sometimes. I like to think about life as a long road trip. Sometimes the terrain is going to be rocky and there will be obstacles in the way and other times it will be smooth and open. As your therapist, I will help you navigate the terrain of life effectively.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Redondo Beach?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
