Susan E Hickman, PhD, PsyD, Psychologist in Chattanooga
Trained as a Psychologist and a Life Coach, my approach to resolving issues is positive, strength-based and solution-focused. I firmly believe that every past problem, every negative event and every so-called life "failure" can be transformed into something useful for growth and recovery. It is all a matter of changing perspective. Sessions focus on helping clients accept and own their issues in a non-judgmental way and in creating action plans that include skill building to promote change rather than merely rehearsing old problems. Sessions can be conducted in person, via video or telephonically.
Using this approach, I have seen dramatic improvements in clients dealing with childhood trauma/abuse, anxiety, eating disorders, depression and chronic life withdrawal. Adopting new ways of living and being in life can be easy or it can be hard: it totally depends on your perspective and openness to change.
I have worked in diverse settings including life and business coaching, private practice, intensive outpatient programs, correctional facilities, active military (Air Force), and conducted both veteran and psychosocial assessments. This has provided the opportunity to learn effective change solutions for a wide range of individuals facing very diverse problems.

The Foundations of Mental Fitness

To be mentally fit is to have the social, emotional and mental skills needed to successfully face every life challenge we encounter. Just like physical fitness means possessing strength to endure strenuous physical activities, being mentally fit is crucial for mental resilience in the face of negative life events. Most folks have not been taught these basic mental fitness skills, but they can certainly be learned. When practiced, these skills lead to a richer, more satisfying and peaceful life with less conflict and emotional upset. So come join us for 8 weeks and learn the basics of mental fitness!

MFIT 101: Mental Mastery Foundations Class

This class is designed to provide an overview and antidote to skill deficits most commonly found in individuals with mood issues, anxiety, interpersonal problems, addictions, career or relationship failures or a variety of other "disorders." One goal of the class is to increase insight and awareness regarding skill deficits and their negative life impact. More importantly, we combine the coursework (live online webinars) with Transformational Coaching in which clients are coached in small groups to further foster skill development and problem-solve interfering issues. For continued skill development, clients next move into MFIT 201: Mental Mastery Applications Class.
