In therapy, I work to help clients understand the root causes of their depression, anxiety, conflicts, and other concerns, and offer practical strategies for how to decrease symptoms and feel better. I believe it is not enough to just get rid of symptoms, but to also help clients develop positive skills that will enhance their lives.
I also strive to create an environment that is caring, accepting, and non-judgmental. People come from different backgrounds, with different values, practices, and beliefs. I try to provide therapy that is culturally affirming, responsive, sensitive, and inclusive, which takes these differences into account..
I am also a psychology professor who teaches, does research, and publishes in the area of multicultural psychology. I bring 30+ years experience as both a professor and a therapist to my work with clients. I am also available to consult and do training for your business or community organization in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
