Clients may be dealing with anxiety issues, mild to moderate levels of depression, interpersonal issues, issues related to anger, or unresolved issues with past trauma. I see people between 16-18 years old if it is their choice to seek help, and adults between 18 and 65 years of age, or older if they can pay privately. They are people who want to resolve troubling issues within themselves through increased self-understanding or between themselves and others through increased knowledge and willingness to practice new behavior.
My goal is to work cooperatively to listen and understand what is happening emotionally and behaviorally and what choices we can open up to allow for constructive changes. This is apt to include some educational information as well as a thoughtful increase in self awareness and personal growth.
Troublesome issues often relate to a lack of information about emotions such as anxiety, grief, anger, or shame, as well as poor habits such as self criticism and stress producing thoughts and attitudes. Talking about these out loud and developing more helpful habits with an understanding listener can often be very helpful.
