I think of therapy as a venue where it's an honor to explore experiences with diverse people. I know that issues are challenging to live with, and I strive to allow people a safe, nurturing, supportive environment in which to explore challenges, meaning, and existence with empathy and compassion. I value seeing and exploring with people in creating their true identities, assisting people in finding their "voice" and to stand in truth. I'm always mindful that a person is not in isolation, but is part of a community with diverse perspectives, morals, and values.
Experience working with adults exploring relationship changes, life transitions, depression, anxiety, grief, loss, nearing death, cultural challenges, sexuality, gender, and trauma. My local Hawai'i background helps me to relate to strengths and differences in collectivistic communities. In addition to a Humanistic theoretical frame, I am trained in EMDR and Emotionally-Focused Therapy.
Answers for life are sometimes stored in your body, and past clients have appreciated understanding that answers are not only intellectual. I base my work with people by using my na'au, feelings and intuition, my local Chinese, Hawaiian, and local Hawai'i values, and am always open to different ways of being.
