Michael Gray, PhD, Psychologist in Albany
I use an interactive, supportive approach to help adults, teens, couples, and families work through anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and self-defeating patterns of behavior. In my work as a developmental psychologist over the past 25 years, I have dedicated my career to understanding and reversing the effects of early adaptive patterns that evolve into difficulties later in life. I enjoy helping people work through these difficulties, some of which can be extremely painful and debilitating. Without such help, this can be an impossible task. Lack of self-acceptance and expectation of rejection are always near the center of the problem.
Anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and self-defeating patterns are held in place by hidden psychodynamics. In close, safe, confidential collaboration with my patients, I examine these dynamics to understand them and help them resolve. Some people find this process emotionally difficult but it is always interesting and often very rewarding.
I believe my strengths are compassion and the breath and depth of my experience. I have dedicated the last 25 years to the study of personality development and change through psychodynamic therapy. I am a member of the American Psychological Association and on the faculty of The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley.
