Karen Wachtel, PhD, Psychologist in Great Neck
I know it can be difficult to seek help. When clients take the first step in improving their lives by deciding to come in, they deserve appreciation and respect for doing so. In the work I do with clients, I aim to be supportive, interactive, collaborative and non-judgmental. Much of my work involves helping people who are coping with difficult transitions. This focus includes postpartum depression, the more general set of stresses associated with becoming a new parent, or the challenges of coming to terms with one's own or a family member's recently diagnosed medical condition, learning disability, or psychological/developmental disorder.
In addition to providing individual and couples therapy, I also specialize in parent-child work. When working with parents, I focus on helping them come up with active interventions that can address their child's difficulties and needs.
Lastly, I have extensive experience conducting comprehensive neuropsychological/ psychoeducational evaluations for children/young adults. I work hard to put children at ease and focus on understanding their strengths as well as their areas of vulnerability. I write reports and give feedback in an accessible and understandable manner.
