Barbara Dunn, PhD, LICSW, MT-BC, Clinical Social Work/Therapist in Seattle
Therapy should be as individualized as the people seeking help. Interventions can range from traditional talk therapy to integration of arts modalities to address complex challenges. I work collaboratively with clients to find the most effective approach for their unique needs and situation. Therapeutic influences come from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and music therapy. Client challenges can include anxiety, depression, pain management, adjustment to medical illness or disability, relationship problems, communication difficulties, self-expression (including artistic blocks), grief and loss issues.
I have more than twenty years of experience as a therapist and hold degrees in social work, music therapy, and interdisciplinary studies. My doctoral research focused on using music as a tool for mediation. Additional education includes one year of post-graduate study in ethnomusicology in New Zealand.
"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music" (Huxley). The integration of music into the therapeutic process opens doors that may otherwise remain closed. No prior experience with music needed to benefit from its use for healing; it is also not for everyone and completely optional.
