Groups for Children

Group therapy can be a powerful intervention for children. Group therapy may serve as an adjunctive treatment for a child already in individual therapy, or for some children, it may be appropriate as the primary form of treatment. Through the group setting, children have the unique opportunity to receive feedback and support from their peers. Using cognitive-behavioral approaches, these groups aim to teach children effective strategies to cope with and decrease levels of distress. Children learn relaxation skills, ways to challenge and change negative thinking patterns, strategies to face their fears and anxiety, as well as problem-solving skills.
