I am a LCSW who works with individuals who are experiencing a disruption in a relationship, difficulty managing their mood, or experiencing symptoms related to trauma. My experience providing individual and group outpatient services, as well as crisis intervention services, allows me to provide my client with the tools needed to work towards recovery. I work to form a trusting therapeutic relationship to allow for exploration of strengths and skills to overcome life challenges. My hope is for all clients to acquire the skills to be their own therapist, and progress from the counseling relationship with an increased sense of self.

In a session with me as your counselor, what you see is what you get. I model authenticity by being present with my clients. You’ll find me to be compassionate, empathetic, perseverant, and even silly at times. I’m a strong believer in the power of talk therapy to ‘get the poison out’ – poison in the form of fear, anxiety, depression, worry, and feeling stuck. I will help you improve your self-esteem, enhance your communication skills, and manage your emotions more effectively. I am also a couples therapist and I am currently finishing my AASECT certification as a Sex Therapist.

Do you feel exhausted, overworked, and under appreciated? Perhaps you believe that if you are just the perfect partner, parent, child, sibling, or employee that you will no longer feel this way. However, the burnout is becoming extreme, and you desperately want to feel differently. Maybe you are an empath who worries that you are “too sensitive”, or have an anxious attachment style and fear being considered “too needy”, or a perfectionist who worries that you will never be worthy of the joy, peace, and love that you see others experiencing. Or perhaps you are a people-pleaser wondering if anyone will every truly know the real you.

I believe that treatment should not simply focus on the problems in your life. Effective treatment should also identify what is working or could work and help you take that to the next level. I seek to empower people with the skills, insight, and wisdom to help themselves. I use a collaborative approach to help people increase awareness of where they have been, who they are now, and where they would like to take their future. I utilize evidenced-based treatments to ensure the highest level of efficacy while tailoring the treatments to the unique circumstances of each individual.

You’ve had some success, but you know you’re capable of much more. You wake up wondering what you’ve done wrong, and if you’ll ever get to where you want to be. People stop themselves for many reasons, but you don’t have to stay stuck. Together we create a strategy for you to reach your goals; action steps that help you realize your vision and build confidence. A goal without a plan is just a dream. Your dreams are meant to be realized.

Deciding to take those initial first steps toward seeking help through psychotherapy can be challenging. Some initial concerns may include, "How will I know if the therapist is competent?" "What if they judge me?" "Will I feel comfortable telling them what I am really feeling and thinking?" These concerns are extremely common in trying to find the right therapist for you. The key phrase is "the right therapist for YOU..." Everyone is different with different needs. I encourage you to read about my experience and the services I provide in to see if I may be the right therapist for you.

I support people as they go through some of life's tougher times. I do not "fix" anyone. I help people remember the truth about their worth and value and guide them as they practice living from that truth whether it's for the first time or not. When we get afraid and empty, it is almost impossible to remember this by ourselves, and we need an experienced, knowledgable and loving ally to shine the light for us through the dark and confusing times.

I give you a space to explore, feel, question, cry, scream, cuss, fall apart, and fall together. I like wrestling with whatever it is that is coming up in your heart or mind. I am open minded and care about the burdens you carry around everyday. It's hard work to grow yourself and we can work together to create and achieve your goals. I believe your story matters and holds a lot of power in shaping your life.

Often one is asked what is wrong with you when they should be asking what happened to you. Often, we are told to snap out of our thing...But wait! just because you cannot get with our thing doesn't mean our thing is wrong! Oh, pull ourselves up by the bootstraps…however, we may have lost our boots, the strings, or our treads are worn...So much for everyone else's perception of our stuff. You cannot change what cannot see! This is a non-judgment safe zone. Come in for an annual addiction check-up, services, or assessment. You got you and I git you! Let me support you through the change process. P.S. be ready.

If you feel like you have tried everything and nothing works, I get you! I strongly believe that we all have an inner wisdom deep within us, but through our life experiences and social influences, most of us lose access to this inner healer. In our work together I will guide and support you as we peel back the layers so that you can reconnect with your deeper sense of self. As you begin to make that connection, shift happens. My intention is for you to feel empowered in your healing journey.

The journey to your best self requires putting in the work and making the necessary changes in your life. If you are motivated by learning and growth, strong-minded, and interested in removing all obstacles to the realization of your best self, you can get there. And, when you do the rewards for all your hard work will surround you —peace, self-love, calm, comfort, strength, confidence, and more. I have seen this in the many people I have guided in my years as a licensed professional counselor, and I can help you get there, too.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
