Is your relationship struggling? Do fights or silences break out before you even know what happened? Do you feel cut out or lonely in your relationship? These are signs that the ‘check engine’ light is on and it might be time to take your relationship in for a check up. Sometimes you just get to a point where you need expert help. I excel at helping couples work through challenging conflicts and move past barriers to intimacy. Whatever the particular circumstances I will work with you to sort things out in an open and understanding way.
In my couples work, we move beyond just improving communication - what we're really after is restoring intimacy and repairing your bond. I can not only help you to recognize the weather before the storm starts, but also find the closeness and joy that you both long for and need. We all find strength and energy from getting in touch with our heart.
I also work with individuals who want to improve their relationships and expand meaning in their lives. I have a passion for helping men to shed their armor and burdens and discover more vitality in life; To connect more deeply with themselves and others I use Feedback informed treatment (FIT) strategies to get better results, faster.

For couples work I would ideally meet with you for 8 consecutive weeks using emotionally focused therapy (EFT). This model meets the highest standards for empirically validated therapy. Most couples report a feeling of progress after the initial session with a gradual shifting of distress. We start with de-escalation and move to repairing and restoring the emotional bond between you.

In your first couples session I want to learn what the relationship is like for each partner. What is it like when you feel close and what is it like when you get out of sync with each other? We will explore this from a pragmatic perspective but also from the inside: what do you tell yourself? how do you cope with distress? As we do this I will help you start choreographing new communicating.
