I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over fifteen years experience specializing in grief, trauma, depression/anxiety/self worth, disordered eating, and life transitions.
Limited openings at this time - Life challenges can feel isolating, but you can find strength and support in therapy. From a place of connection, empathy, and understanding, we’ll work together to explore what’s holding you back from living a life that feels full and meaningful. As your therapist, I want to help you find the freedom to generate new ways of thinking, feeling & acting: to transform unhelpful personal narratives into strength-based versions you can use to thrive. Together we will join to heal old wounds, discover inner wisdom, and move towards self compassion.

I have worked with folks across a wide array of presenting concerns, including managing symptoms of anxiety, mood dysregulation, and depression, healing with/from trauma, managing grief and loss, recovery from substance abuse and addiction, chronic illness, & LGBT issues.
Deeply passionate about social justice and facilitating and guiding positive change and development in the lives of others, I am thrilled to connect with you as you begin your journey inward. Healing is truly the risk of showing up for yourself and your resistance to temptation to go back to unsilenced needs, numbing out, disconnection, and erasure. As a black, gender non-binary Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), I have a personal stake and insight into the work I do. My clinical practice aims to empower and heal individuals, families & communities through therapy, consulting, case management, training, & community outreach.

My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief/loss, eating disorders and relationship problems.
I believe strongly in the resilience of people, and that a healthy therapeutic relationship can promote trust, healing, and personal growth. I believe that successful therapy is predicated on having a strong therapeutic alliance; the connection and collaborative relationship between the client and therapist. Taking a strength-based perspective, I listen deeply and reflectively to sustain a non-judgmental and safe environment. I am passionate about helping clients fully process past experiences and thrive in relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them.

Are you weary of traditional methods of therapy? Whereas CBT, DBT, and other methods make you do homework and change your thoughts for your happiness, my methods are more interesting, imaginative, and highly personalized... and I use humor! We wont fight our suffering, we'll work with it, and transform it. Got anxiety, communication issues, existential dread (I mean, with the world being as it is, how can we not?), or a host of other things that cause you suffering? With my support you can catch a wave and surf into your best self. What's in it for you? A healing relationship with one of the most supportive people out here!

I treat individuals affected by a range of problems, including depression, anxiety, and stress.
When the demands of our lives become overwhelming, we can feel trapped and powerless in our suffering. Often, we then seek to avoid or ignore our emotional pain, rather than address it. In my work as a clinical psychologist, I strive to help individuals approach their experiences in a way that reduces suffering and promotes health. With a genuine, compassionate, and collaborative therapy style, I work with adults to reconnect with their values and increase the sense of ease in their lives. My approach is strongly rooted in mindfulness-based therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I have worked with children, adolescents, & adults in individual, group, & family therapy settings, providing support and diagnostic clarification in areas such as anxiety, depression, & LGBTQ issues.
While I believe every person is the ultimate expert in themselves, I think therapy provides a powerful opportunity for partnership and guidance. In a safe, nonjudgmental space, people are able to explore new elements of their lives and selves, to identify goals and values, and to examine the ways current patterns are either supporting or hindering those goals. My job as a therapist is to help create that safe space with you, to encourage you along your process of exploration, and to provide reflection and guidance where it may be helpful.

Most of us do the best we can with the resources we have. Sometimes we think no one understands our worries & fears. If open to it, we want to work with a therapist when our usual ways of relating aren't helping & we feel stuck, anxious, angry or depressed. Therapy often helps provide insight into our strengths & internal resources we already have to help navigate challenging times. In sessions, I focus on working with clients to unlock this strength to steer their lives in the direction they want. I bring curiosity, warmth, respect, & empathy to my sessions.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
