You just feel...stuck. You deal with a persistent sadness like you're moving through life in a heavy fog. Or maybe you're constantly on edge, overwhelmed by worry and that unrelenting inner critic. Maybe you just feel so disconnected that you're having trouble identifying the problem. On the outside, everything looks perfect and you 'should ' be happy. The truth is, you've gotten so good at faking it that you feel like an impostor in your own life. You're just not your best self.

Life can be intense and complicated; no one should have to face it alone. I will partner with you to find new levels of awareness, move blocks or areas that you have been stuck to assist you in transforming. I believe in exploring trauma, broken attachments and looking at root causes of dysfunction. I am well versed in addictions and codependency. I enjoy guiding couples to learn kind and compassionate but direct communication skills. I think it is essential to incorporate and identify societal "isms" that effect us all.

I believe that we all hold the innate power to make meaning out of whatever challenges we encounter in our life, and in that power lies the ability to heal, grow, and evolve. As a therapist, I am passionate about supporting my clients as they tap into their own inner resources to embody the best version of themselves through their current life situations. My approach to the therapeutic process contains the belief that all experiences, despite how seemingly hopeless, can be integrated and used for one’s benefit. Curiosity and unconditional positive regard are elements I bring with me as I have the honor of sitting with clients.

The infancy and early childhood period is critical for emotional and behavioral development. Both ordinary and challenging events such as sleep and eating routines, school entry, family separations and conflict, illness, or trauma can push development and relationships off track, leading to worrisome problems at home and school. Young children speak their own language-- one that is not always easy to decode. I work with children ages 0 to 10 and their caregivers to understand the meaning of behavior problems and symptoms and help caregivers work with child and with one another to get development back on track.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
