I am the owner of Water Bear Counseling, LLC; and am a one woman private practice. Colleagues and clients say I am "down to earth" and "develop great rapport quickly." This is because of my laid back style of having a therapeutic conversation. I ask questions, reflect what I hear, and offer observations. I also keep clients informed about the process so they understand what is happening. I teach the skills and strategies that may be helpful to creating change and improved quality of life. I also am available for clinical training and supervision for employees from all disciplines.

I look forward to meeting you! I have been very fortunate to have been trained in a variety of different settings. I have worked in residential, in-home, outpatient, school, day treatment facilities working with a vast diversity of Mental Health issues. I have a more specific focus on trauma work, and have been specifically a PRIDE therapist before. I believe in the relationship as the main focus of the treatment where I help build trust and comfort. My role as the professional to adjust which evidenced based practice to bring intentionally into the space at different times that best suits your needs. I am excited to work with you!

Change is good, but change is also hard! In my experience, therapy is about working with individuals to help them reach their life goals, despite obstacles and maximize their potential. Despite the hard work involved, my mission is for therapy to be a positive experience. Simply stated, it should be a collaborative effort based on problem solving, support and the exchange of ideas. Additionally, treatment needs to be developed in the context of a person's life experiences and history. My hope is as treatment progresses individuals can move forward with what they have learned to independently facilitate future change.

I specialize in meeting the needs of creative individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues. Because I am the author of ten critically acclaimed books, I also work with aspiring writers, helping them to gain publication. My work is intensely relational and always focused on real results. I believe that clients are paying for a service and that they deserve to see measurable and lasting change. Along these same lines, my treatment is often relatively brief. We identify the problem(s) and the steps to change along with a timeline for these steps. Clients become active agents in their own recoveries.

I enjoy working with all ages. Over the last 20 years I have worked with children,tweens,adolescents,adults,couples and their families. Desiree Maldonado is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with years of experience providing individual and family counseling with youth, adolescents, and young adults. She has had the opportunity to work with a variety of individuals seeking help in addressing depression, anxiety, communication, PTSD, mood disorders, and relationship issues, as well as a variety of mental health challenges. Desiree has her Master's in Social Work and a specialization in Children and Families.

I am a Massachusetts-Licensed Mental Health Counselor and I love my job. I began this journey in NYC, receiving my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Queens College. After moving to New Hampshire, I pursued my MEd from UNH and a second Masters’ (MS) in Addiction Counseling. I rounded off my studying with my CAGS from Rivier University in Nashua, NH. This allowed me to work in the education, and/or clinical fields, with the dual-diagnosed population, as well as teach Psychology at NCC.
