I love working with kids ages 6 months to 12 years old and their families. I have participated in a state sponsored 2 year program to learn to assess and treat children from birth to 5 years old. I also co created and facilitated a therapeutic playgroup that included parents and children ages 3-5 years . The group was created to help children and parents build relationship through play and also provide parents with resources on how to manage tantrums or other behavioral concerns. I used play therapy techniques to assist children in processing their thoughts and feelings.

I love helping people find the answers they need through psychological and neuropsychological evaluations. I am passionate about assisting people who have struggled in school, at work, or interpersonally without knowing the reasons why. A comprehensive evaluation identifies an individual's unique strengths and weaknesses, clarifies diagnosis, and provides insight into the treatments that are likely to be most effective. I customize each evaluation to the individual needs of the client. Clients and families leave the evaluation process with individualized and detailed recommendations that guide them toward success.

Mary Ellen Sternitzke is a licensed psychologist in Wyoming and Colorado; she earned her doctorate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She served as Associate and Clinical Director at Catholic Charities of Wyoming for their outpatient mental health program. Her current work with adults emphasizes solution-focused interventions, targeted EMDR for trauma and anxiety, managing ADD/ADHD, post partum anxiety and depression and negotiating transitions like bereavement and divorce.

I welcome the opportunity to serve clients of all ages, and have extensive experience with young children, their families and the professionals who support them. People who work in education are a particular specialty for me after years of providing training and support to this group.

As a counselor, I have experienced beautiful moments with my clients, both children and adults, as they discover the roots of their struggles and begin to emerge as their true selves. I am skilled at forming deep, therapeutic relationships that promote positive change and growth.

I accept clients with diversified concerns and life challenges, but have a passion for working with anxiety, OCD, and career related concerns. I believe effective therapy starts with a connection between the counselor and client. I strive to create a safe place to face even the tallest of mountains. I utilize talk therapy and action-based approaches that balance all aspects of self when walking on the journey of growth. I have experience working with children, adolescents, teenagers, college students, families, and adults. Hi. Welcome! I have been a counselor in Cheyenne for over 15 years. My practice is specialized in working with trauma, children, adolescents, women's issues, divorce, depression, and anxiety. I truly believe that you have the ability and capability to heal, and I will assist you in obtaining your goal.

My passion is help people heal from complex trauma, PTSD, developmental trauma, personality disorders, anxiety, depression, and generate overall wellbeing for my clients. Anyone is welcome. This is your world and I just want to teach you to heal yourself, so that you find your center, and have the tools you need to heal yourself for the rest of your life. I primarily work with young children. (zero to 10) and with parenting challenges. I specialize in families who have children with developmental disabilities. I enjoy learning from, and with, many different types of families and helping them make their lives the best they can be. I am an adoptive mom of 2 boys with unique needs. There are no perfect parents!

I was born and raised in Evanston, WY. I attended the University of Wyoming and graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor's of Social Work and with a Minor in Disability Studies. I then went on to complete a Master's of Social Work degree and graduated in 2019. I am currently a Provisional Clinical Social Worker. While in school, I worked with adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities at Ark Regional Services and vocational services for youth with disabilities at Career Innovations. At a Master's level, I was an intern at a therapeutic preschool for early childhood mental health services in Cheyenne, WY.

Sometimes life can be a bit too much: relationship struggles arise, worries seem too heavy, or direction is hard to find. That’s where I come in. As a counselor, I aim to meet each client where they are, building a deep understanding of who they are and collaboratively identifying what they need and how to get them there. I utilize an integrative approach, drawing on multiple counseling perspectives to meet each individual's needs through evidence-based approaches. I won’t force clients to do anything, but using my training and experience, I will both support and challenge them to make significant, lasting change.

Kara is a Provisionally Licensed Clinical Social Worker (PCSW- 1114) and enjoys working clients in various stages of life. With her internship at the Wyoming Children's Trust Fund, Kara was actively involved in direct family advocacy work at the state level, including public health studies, outreach and education, and community-specific programming recommendations. Kara was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and she is the mother of three beautiful children who are growing up in this community as well.
