I am an English/Spanish counselor whose main goal is to help my clients find hope, resilience and solutions to their problems. My academic and life experiences have shown me that most challenges and frustrations have solutions. I help my clients understand that the solution is within him/her during those moments when they feel they're unable to endure life's challenges and problems. We uncover the "where, when, and how" and then we find the "why" (reasons) underlying the feelings of doom and frustration. This allows us to discover and implement workable solutions.

“Your mental health is everything — prioritize it. Make the time like your life depends on it because it does.” — Mel Robbins. I believe that I didn't choose to be a mental health professional, the profession chose me. I remember helping my friends in High school with their traumas and life transition issues. The ability to connect and make people feel comfortable talking to me about their personal stories took me on this professional path. What I love the most about being a mental health professional is having the opportunity and privilege of being a part of people’s journeys.

My clients come to me because they struggle with understanding their relationships with themselves or with others. That, or they want to keep their current relationships positive and healthy. They want to strengthen those healthy connections with others. In a world that doesn't always understand how my clients live, love, or relate to others it is difficult to work through the challenges of just being human. I am both an advocate and a therapist. We will work together on your goals needs and concerns.

I work with people who are doing the best they can but don't see things quite working out, who are feeling like they don't belong, who are struggling to feel whole, who are caught up in unhelpful behaviors & patterns, who are lost and confused, who are trapped in their fears or thoughts, and who have had difficult upbringings. Any one of these can leave you feeling stuck or absent in your life. I've worked with clients from many backgrounds to overcome their fears, anxiety, anger, and depression and begin to feel present and unstuck once again. Now I'd like to help you, too....

My ideal client is anyone who is struggling to find peace within their own mental health. The client may have issues of grief, past betrayals, or major life changes. The client only wants to come to a place of acceptance with the things that have happened in their life. They want to be validated in the knowledge that their experience and feelings are real. They also want help in moving past their current place and reaching their goals. They want to be at peace in their mental health.

My approach encourages individuals to explore meaning, become aware of their own possibilities and limitations, navigate the complexities and uncertainties of life, and learn to live authentically. I believe we all strive to find meaning in our existence and, as we learn to grow from our experiences, we can continue on a path of personal transformation. It is important to gain healthy insight, make changes, and create the futures you desire for yourself. Working through trauma, grief, pain, and fear will get you to the healthy place you were meant to be and fill you with hope as you become your whole healthy self.

Congrats on making it this far, you deserve this! I hope you’ve found exactly what you’re looking for, right here on my profile. Your search is over! I know it’s difficult, navigating through the stress of work or school, generational curses, and everything else in this world through experience and with many questions. I understand how hard it was to get to this point; making a conscious decision to seek a therapeutic relationship to help build a better you. Despite the negative or discouraging comments you’ve heard or thoughts you may have, you’ve taken the most important step: starting your search for a connection of a lifetime.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
