I incorporate evidence-based cognitive behavior therapy and motivational interviewing, but use an eclectic approach to meet your specific needs in a way that makes sense to you.
Are you ready to leave the old story behind and live the full embodied life you deserve? Therapy is a brave first step in healing. I am not an expert on how you should live. Rather, I seek to support you in living a life you want. As a result of working together, you'll learn to develop more satisfying relationships, navigate life transitions and clarify wants and desires. As a therapist, I am dedicated to creating a safe and calming space for people to explore their needs on a journey to healing and wellness. I have a relational style of therapy that looks to your goals, experiences and strengths in order to meet your unique needs

I primarily use skills taught in cognitive-behavioral based theories, as well as motivational interviewing.
I have experience working with clients who are struggling with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, as well as relationship issues surrounded by low self worth, shame and resentments. I have learned that there are many factors that contribute to someone feeling overwhelmed and may prevent us from reaching our goals that may also include poor coping skills, communication issues, grief or loss, and addiction issues. My goal will be to help you learn how to regulate emotions, identify unhealthy mindsets and/or memories that have kept you feeling trapped, and learn skills so you can find restoration in your life.

Each day yields another opportunity to strive to become a better version of yourself. I’m passionate about counseling because I too have learned that when life becomes uncertain and difficult to navigate, counseling is the tool that gives voice where you are silent, it embraces you in areas you feel broken, it pours into your empty places to fill you with hope, clarification, and renewed expectation that you will overcome your challenges and accomplish your goals. You will win!

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
