I welcome clients navigating trauma recovery, life/gender transitions and loss, relationships, sex, gender and sexuality, and mental health management and recovery from addiction.
Hi, I’m Eli. I facilitate depth conversations about how to live into and through life’s big challenges, especially if you live with a heavy dose of Extenuating Circumstances. I work from a relational approach, centring your unique experiences in your healing path. As a Trans person with lived experience at the margins, I know finding the right fit with your therapist is essential. I take a trauma-informed, anti-racist, sex- and kink-affirming and culturally-aware approach in my work with people of all identities. I specifically welcome clients with lived experience of trauma, mental illness and the Two Spirit, LGBTQIA community.

I recently completed Level 2 training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a trauma-focused and attachment-based somatic therapy.
Hello and welcome! I'm a queer, transmasculine therapist with a background in health and community-based work, as well as in music, writing, and theatre. I draw upon a range of strengths-based and trauma-informed therapy approaches with the intention of increasing my clients' capacity to safely connect to themselves and to move toward ways of living and relating that affirm them in their wholeness. I aim to be an active and supportive presence in the therapy process, and to work in a way that is guided by the political frameworks I value in my everyday life: anti-oppression, harm reduction, and abolition.

My background includes working with those who have experienced: unresolved trauma, challenges with substances , addiction, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sexual abuse/assault, violence, grief/loss and involvement with the criminal justice system.
Perhaps you are experiencing some inner conflicts that are keeping you stuck? Or previous coping strategies are no longer serving you? Or maybe something is off that you can’t seem to name? Through exploring your thoughts, feelings and body sensations we can see what patterns and ways of being you would like to keep, let go of, (re) discover and grow. Using compassion and humour, we’ll work together to understand your reactions and how to work towards chosen responses to help navigate you to a different place.

I am a reformed intellectualizer who now helps individuals and couples through body-based psychotherapy. Many of my clients feel disconnected from their bodies, whether this be because of pain (both chronic and sexual), burnout, trauma, ADHD or emotional numbing. It can be impossible to feel sometimes. While our bodies are smart and have adapted to our environments, there is also a way to reconnect and heal.

Taking a trauma-informed and embodied approach in our work together, we can learn to practice openness, curiosity, and to safely be present with ourselves.
When life begins to feel challenging and overwhelming, it can be difficult to create space for calm and stillness. We may even seek to avoid the quiet altogether, fearing the thoughts that arise or the emotions we keep buried beneath the surface. It often feels easier to distract ourselves from our thoughts or to numb and detach from the challenging emotions that inevitably emerge. Therapy can provide us with a space to turn inward and deeply connect with ourselves, allowing us to bring awareness to our patterns, better understand our needs, move towards acceptance, or even work towards change.

Shé:kon! I'm an Indigiqueer, trauma-informed and open-minded practitioner who will affirm your strengths and experiences. People see me because they want support with concerns such as coping with the world, anxieties, fears or intergenerational trauma. Or maybe folks have identities, behaviours and relations that no longer serve them: maybe they would like to cut down on drinking or leave a relationship or enter a new line of work. They are looking for someone who offers gentle, non-judgmental and authentic support that is tailored for them and their needs.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
