Struggling with significant anxiety, depression, uncontrollable intrusive thoughts, or the impacts of past trauma & abuse can feel awful. Maybe it's a rough patch in your life or struggles in a relationship. Maybe you've struggled for so long it just feels the way it will always be. We all need help from time to time with our struggles, whether they are recent issues or long-term mental health challenges. You may not even be sure what the problem is, but you know there is a problem & you want to feel better. You want a non-judgmental, safe, empathetic, and skilled person who can help. I keep a low case load to focus on each person.

Accepting New Clients. Often what brings people to therapy can be summed up by the word “stuck”. You might be stuck in a rut; under a cloud of sadness or depression; caught in the spin cycle of anxiety; trying to process relationship issues or a big decision; or wanting to move past trauma or grief & loss. Maybe someone or something in your life has given you a soft or firm nudge in the direction of therapy. We’ll work through whatever you bring to therapy in a way that prepares you to meet any difficulties along the road while you reach your goals.

No two families are exactly alike. I'm honored to be able to learn about people, how they grew up, and how they're living now. I firmly believe everyone has the opportunity to reimagine their world, strengthening the bonds that heal them and limiting relationships that are less helpful. I love doing the work, and I look forward to joining people's conversations about life. I began my career as a therapist performing in-home therapy with a wide variety of clients. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, work-related issues, anger management, and family of origin stressors.

Everyone has their own journey, their own story to tell and I want my office to be a sacred space where you get to share yours. The space will be filled with compassion, action, learning (for both of us) and hopefully some laughter. I hope you will allow me the privilege to join you, as you become the hero of your own story.

Bill has a very straightforward and matter-of-fact approach to psychotherapy and counseling. He describes his approach as "change oriented", believing the client's inherent strengths provide the keys to growth and recovery. Bill recognized the profound role the family plays in mental health. Bill finds working with families especially rewarding. Much of that works includes couple and marriage counseling and youth.

There is no shame in the struggles of this life. It's Ok to not be Ok. Maybe you aren't even sure how you ended up here. Healing and growth can look different for different people. Together we will figure out what that looks like for you. And we will move at your pace. I believe that you can make positive changes at any point, no matter what you did or what was done to you. What is shared in counseling is confidential, sacred and empowering.

Thank you for considering me for your healing journey. I am licensed in both Iowa and Illinois. Many clients that I work with identify within the LGBTQ+ community or are teens and emerging adults navigating an increasingly more challenging world. I offer individual services as well as relationship therapy services. In addition, I would be grateful to support anyone that feels connected to my strategies and perspectives on healing.

I work with individuals with ADHD, OCD, Trauma, anxiety and sexual concerns such as men's issues, porn addiction and polyamory. My treatment modalities focus on the individual and it's not a cookie cutter approach. I incorporate modalities like CBT, Mindfulness, Stages of Change, Trauma Informed Therapy and Solution Focus therapy, and use podcasts, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok videos, books and more as supplements as well. My patients are eager to improve their lives, but often stuck as to where to start or where to begin.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
